Case study
The Hempcrete
PassivHaus.
Two years ago we joined the design team on the Hempcrete PassivHaus, working as PassivHaus consultant alongside architect Tim Fletcher and MES Building Solutions, then returning to spray the hempcrete ourselves.
In progress · PassivHaus air test due by the end of 2026
The house sits on an insulated raft foundation by KORE, with a load-bearing timber frame designed and built by Turner Timber alongside the design team. The on-site contractor team installed hemp blocks from the Hemp Block Company on the inside of the frame, and the roof went on, insulated with hemp insulation and wood fibre above the deck.
Adyta started on site in August 2026, spraying hempcrete against the hemp blocks to infill the timber frame. The spraying was finished in September 2026. The hempcrete is now drying, ready to be rendered and timber clad. All airtightness products are from Ecological Building Systems, with lime plaster internally.
Next comes the PassivHaus air test, due by the end of 2026. The target is below 0.6 air changes per hour, so fingers crossed. After that the building will be monitored for performance, so watch this space.
